Square Enix says NieR:Automata players can get past its unexpected Steam storage demand by turning off DLC downloads. The publisher acknowledged the problem on November 6 and offered the step as a temporary way to download the base game.
In Steam, open the game’s Properties menu, choose DLC and uncheck each item, according to the publisher’s notice. Square Enix says the base game should then download using the intended amount of free space.
Square Enix says the installer asks for more space than intended. It is still investigating the cause and has not given a date for a fix. The space Steam requests during installation is not a confirmed new size for the game’s files.
The affected Steam update adds support for Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Korean, according to its patch notes.
