Selaco will add 19 campaign maps on November 13 with its free second chapter, The Machines of War. Altered Orbit Studios estimates the new chapter will take six to eight hours in its October 30 announcement.

The chapter puts a machine on protagonist Dawn's trail and gives her an ally for part of the story. Players who prefer to fight alone can order that companion to stay put. New equipment includes a jetpack, portable turrets and heavy weapons picked up on the battlefield.

The update also revises the first chapter, with new lighting, changed set pieces and other additions. Those changes come with a catch for anyone partway through a run: existing saves will not work with the new version.

Players who have finished the original campaign will be able to start at Chapter 2. The studio recommends playing from the beginning to see the revised levels, but says those players can go straight to the new material.

For an unfinished campaign, the developer describes an option to keep playing the old version. The CHAPTER1 branch in Steam's beta menu will let players finish that run before returning to the update. Finishing before November 13 or starting a new run after the update are the other options it lists.

Weapon Kit unlocks will stay unlocked for everyone. These are the weapon modifications players find during the campaign, so a new run will not require earning them all again. That retained progress is separate from loading an old save.

Enemy patrols are another planned change. The studio says they will give players more choice over when a fight begins, with ambushes making up less of the campaign. Players will also be able to buy missed Weapon Kits in Safe Rooms, apart from the ultra-secret kits. Full patch notes and a trailer are due at launch.
