The number of new game pages created each day on itch.io has doubled in two months, the platform says. It shared the rise in a weekend Bluesky post.

Downloads and purchases have not doubled alongside them, itch.io added in a follow-up. That leaves room for a smaller increase. The short reply gives no totals for downloads, purchases or individual games, so it does not establish flat or falling sales.

Asked what caused the increase, itch.io told a user to guess and added crying and robot emoji. The exchange gives no count of AI-made pages or measured share of the growth.

The page figure also leaves open how many projects were complete or visible in the store's search results. Itch.io's indexing guide draws a distinction between making a page public and adding it to search and browse listings. A project can be available through its link without appearing in those listings.

The guide says a project needs to be public and offer something to buy, download or play in the browser to qualify for the listings. It also requires a cover image. Empty or placeholder project pages are not indexed as games.

Itch.io's existing quality rules already say automated systems must not be used to mass-produce product pages. The platform treats that as spam and may remove the pages from browse and search. Its examples include minimally curated generated projects and repeated versions of mostly the same content.
