Path of Exile 2’s new Shadow class can lay traps while hidden, then set them off as it attacks. Grinding Gear Games revealed the class at ExileCon. The Shadow will arrive with the game’s full release on December 11, Pacific Standard Time.

Stealth keeps monsters from seeing the Shadow until it moves within a short distance of them, GGG says. That gives the class room to prepare an ambush. Enemies can still detect it up close.

Traps are a new weapon type in Path of Exile 2. The Shadow can lay them while in stealth, then trigger them automatically by striking. They explode in the order they were thrown. Players can plan that sequence by choosing which trap to throw first.

The Shadow also uses daggers. Being in the shadows gives dagger skills extra bonuses, according to GGG. At launch, the class will have two Ascendancy classes, the game’s specializations: Assassin and Infiltrator.

GGG has described the broad rules for stealth and traps. Its announcement does not give a detection distance or list each trap’s effects.

December’s other new class, the Duelist, uses swords and a stance system to alter its skills. Its two launch specializations are Knight and Master-at-Arms. Both classes are part of version 1.0, which also completes the six-act campaign by adding Acts 5 and 6.

GGG lists 24 new areas and 18 new bosses for those acts. Its ExileCon press release also confirms that the game’s full release will be free to play.
